MIL-s-70442 (AR)
3. 4.1.1 Electrical signal interface. The HUDS signal interface
with the AH-1 series helicopter shall be as defined in Appendix A.
3.4.1.2 Electrical power.
3.4.1.2.1 Steady state. The electrical service conditions will
be in accordance with MIL-STD-704, Category "B" utilization
equipment, except that the transient frequency limit of Figure 5,
limit 4 in MIL-sTD-704 shall be 240 Hz. The equipment shall meet
all specified requirements of MIL-sTD-704 for the types of power
specified herein, and shall give specified performance when supplied
with electrical power having these characteristics and limits. The
following power inputs will be available to the HUDS:
a. 28 Vdc for HUDS primary operating voltage, maximum power
available shall be 76 watts for test and 70 watts for normal
operation.
b. O to 28 Vdc instrument panel dimmable lighting bus; maximum
power available for this function shall be 5 watts.
115 Vac 400 Hz single phase for SP cooling fan and HUDS
elapsed time indicators; maximum available power shall be 15
volt-amperes.
3.4.1.2.2 Electrical power interruptions. Momentary power
.
.
interruptions to the HUDS equipment will be experienced when
external primary power is switched to helicopter power or when
switching from one helicopter power bus to another. The HUDS shall
meet the performance requirements of this specification within five
seconds after such momentary power interruptions as defined in
MIL-STD-704. The HUDS shall return to specified performance within
fifteen seconds (10 seconds desired) after any similar momentary
longer term interruption.
3.4.1.2.3 polarity reversal. Components that receive dc
helicopter primary or instrument power shall not be damaged when
subjected to a polarity reversal due to inadvertant polarity
reversal of the helicopter dc power. HUDS operation shall return to
normal after polarity is restored, within the constraints specified
for electrical power interruptions specified in 3.4.1.2.2
3.4.2 Performance.
3.4.2.1 Operation. The HUDS is operated by the pilot primarily
for aiming the helicopter to fire rockets and gun and to assist the
copolot/gunner in operating the TOW missile system.
