MIL-M-46379A(MU)
4 .6 Test methods and procedures.
4.6.1 Operating temperatures.- This test shall be conducted in
accordance with the "Test Facilities" requirements of MIL-F-13926, except
that in lieu of the "Standard ambient test conditions" the extreme tempera-
tures in 3.4.1 shall apply. Utilizing test equipment conforming to 4.5,
gradually change chamber temperature to prevent thermal shock until the
external surface of the mount is thermally stabilized in turn at each extreme
temperature in 3.4.1. Maintain each extreme temperature for the uninterrupted
period of time required to determine that the mounting plate is rotatable
and that the locking lever is operable.. Upon completion of this examina-
tion, the mount shall be returned to between plus 60° and 90°F, and examined
for evidence of damage. Subsequent to this test, the mount shall meet
3.5.1 and 3.5.2 in accordance with 4.6.3 and 4.6.4, respectively.
4 .6 .2 Vibration.- This test shall be conducted by vibrating the
mount in a vertical plane in accordance with the conditions of amplitude,
frequency and time duration in 3.4.2. Subsequent to vibration, the mount
shall be subjected to a visual and tactile examination to determine that
no evidence of damage exists. The mount shall then be subjected to tests
4.6.3 and 4.6.4.
4.6.3 Mounting plate.- The mount shall be positioned on a device that
suspends the body of the mount from a horizontal mounting surface. With
the lever lock out of detent, apply the specified torque to the sight
mounting plate by means of a calibrated pull scale. The torque required
to move the mounting plate from one detent to the other shall be within
the limits specified in 3.5.1.
4.6.4 Lever
lock.- This test shall be performed utilizing the same
set-up as in the previous test with the aid of an auxiliary telescope and
a calibrated wall target. Secure the lever lock in either detent. Mount
the auxiliary telescope on the sight mounting plate with the telescope
reticle aligned with the center of the target and the reticle line plumb.
Sight through the telescope and apply the torque specified in 3.5.2 at
the outer edge of the sight mounting plate by means of a calibrated pull
scale. Angular displacement shall not exceed the limit specified in 3.5.2.
Repeat this procedure with the lever lock secured at the other detent and
the telescope realigned with the target.
