3 . 4 . 5 V i b r a t i o n . - The rate gyroscopes shall meet the performance
requirements of 3.5 after being subjected to vibrations over a frequency
range of 5 to 500 cycles per second (cps). For frequencies between 5 to
20 cps, the double amplitude shall be 1.0" D.A. For frequencies between
2 0 to 33 Cps, t h e a m p l i t u d e s h a l l v a r y f r o m 1 i n c h ( l " ) D . A . a t 2 0 c p s t o
.67" at 33 cps. For frequencies between 33 to 50 cps, the amplitude shall
be varied so as to maintain a 35G acceleration. For frequencies between
5 0 to 95 Cps, t h e a m p l i t u d e s h a l l b e v a r i e d s o a s t o m a i n t a i n a 5 0 G a c c e l e l
t i o n . F o r f r e q u e n c i e s b e t w e e n 9 5 t o 5 0 0 C P S, t h e a m p l i t u d e s h a l l b e
varied so as to maintain a 10G acceleration.

3.5 P e r f o r m a n c e .
3.5.1 Rate transfer characteristics.
Rate range shall be at least + 40° per sec.
3.5.1.1 Rate range.-
3 . 5 . 1 . 2 S e n s i t i v i t y . - Nominal sensitivity shall be 140 millivolts
r o o t m e a n s q u a r e p e r d e g r e e p e r s e c o n d ( m v r m s / d e g / s e e ) + 10% over the
temperature range (-40° to 150°F) when excited by a 26-volt (v) 400 cps
source in series with a 50 millihenry (MH) choke having a Q of 15 and the
pick-off loaded with a 10K resistor.
3 . 5 . 1 . 3 L i n e a r i t y . - Linearity of the rate gyroscopes shall be + 0 . 5 %
of full rate scale to half rate scale. It shall be + 3.0% of full rate
scale across the full rate scale output. Linearity shall be the maximum
deviation of the calibration curve from the most favorable straight line
that can be drawn through the calibration curve and which coincides with
the calibration curve for zero rate input.
Threshold shall be less than 0.005 deg/sec.

3.5.2 Dynamic response characteristics.
3 . 5 . 2 . 1 D a m p i n g f a c t o r (Part N O. 1 0 5 2 7 2 3 7 - l ) . - T h e nominal damping
factor, expressed as a ratio at any given temperature to critical damping
of the gyroscope natural frequency, shall be 0.7 + 30% over the environ-
mental temperature range.
3 . 5 . 2 . 2 D a m p i n g f a c t o r ( P a r t N o . 1 0 5 2 7 2 3 7 - 2 ) . - T h e nominal damping
f a c t o r , expressed as a ratio at any given temperature to critical damping
of the gyroscope natural frequency shall be 5.0 + 2,0.
